Speaking of metal detectors, let me introduce the latest tech in the world of metal detectors and gold mining, the Minelab GPX 5000.
The Minelab GPX 5000 is seen as the king of metal detectors when it comes to gold detecting, simply put it is a great revolution to the metal detecting industry as it boasts of very nice and unique features.
The Minelab GPX 5000 as launched in the fall of 2010 and is still very much in circulation as it is very easy to use and operate & its considered to be the best gold detector in the world!
Minelab GPX 5000 Overview
The Minelab GPX 5000 is a unique equipment when it comes to gold hunting and nugget hunting most especially in highly mineralized soil. And it also happens to be the most expensive metal detector currently on the market.
It would be nice to say that the Minelab GPX 5000 is totally worth its cost as it can achieve feats which other metal detectors cannot achieve by going deeper than other metal detectors. It is able to reach an amazing depth of 1.5 meters down on good-sized targets which is unheard of with other brands of metal detectors. This is referred to as the GPX Depth Advantage.
However to be very fair you can say how exactly detector can detect because this depends on a lot of factors, such as size of target object and many other factors.
This Pulse Induction (PI) unit is built in such a way that it can ignore ground mineralization and also ignore hard rocks. It is specifically built for nugget detection and as such has a variety of adjustment which makes it stand out when it comes to mineralized areas.
The Minelab GPX 5000 is a result of ten (10) years of innovation in the field of pulse induction (PI) technology. The GPX 5000 consists of a weight of 5.3 lbs not including the harness battery which is mounted and weighs 1.7 lbs on its own. The detector is consists of 11 inch round mono coil and 11 inch round DD coil. You can also get about 100 accessory coils for the GPX 5000.
When it comes to ground mineralization, the Minelab GPX5000 is the best you can get in the market, unlike other detectors that would confuse the soil mineralization and leading you to waste valuable time.
The GPX5000 helps you save time as it will ignore false alarm which you get from other PI detectors. The GPX5000 is able to see through this soil mineralization and is unaffected by it.
Features of Minelab GPX 5000
For me, Minelab GPX 5000 has been able to squeeze out all the performance I expect from a pulse induction (PI) and thus I expect nothing much from future Pulse Induction detectors.
It’s amazing the level of stability and the length of depth the GPX 5000 can reach. I am also marveled at the level of sensitivity of the GPX 5000, as it acts as if it has a mind of its own. Also, the GPX 5000 can be adjusted to handle various levels of soil mineralization as well as hot rocks that may obstruct the GPX 5000 sensors.
I think that Minelab should work on the iron discrimination system, which to some extent is not totally reliable and to some extent useless when trying to launch a deep target.
GPX 5000 Display
Another reason, why I love the Minelab GPX 5000 is that it is as simple as you can get and I don’t think you would run into any problems with the GPX 5000 anytime soon. The LED indicators are really bright and the buttons are easy to see and understand.
Minelab GPX 5000 Pulse Induction (PI) Settings
Minelab pulse induction is seen as the best, right from their earlier products, they are said to be among the best when it comes to gold and nugget detection.
Pulse induction detectors are very good at getting longer depths even in somewhat mineralized grounds, this is because of strong transmitters it can use and vast selection of different coil sizes and shapes suitable for the detector, thus making this detector great for finding gold nuggets that have been missed by regular VLF detectors even in vicinity considered quiet from a mineralization point of view.
Pros and Cons of Minelab GPX 5000
- High performance MPS, DVT, SETA technology
- Automatic Ground balance
- PI Metal Detector
- Six preset Search Modes
- Best for finding Gold
- Very Expensive
- Its not Waterproof
When it comes to performance, the GPX 5000 is a beast and the best. It is an equipment you can bring out from the box and start using immediately without evening looking at the manual. Depends on your knowledge of metal detectors though.
All you have to do is to spend some time and learn the settings and how the Minelab GPX 5000 functions, you are bound to experience more success hunting for gold.
If you are the one who frequently searching for gold in the water then stay away from this detector (you can consider buying Garette ATX or Fisher Gold, which is great for searching gold in water) for any other prospecting, the Minelab GPX 5000 is the best bet.
